Tuesday Tips with Keli | Keeping Your Pets Safe This 4th of July

Hey friends—can you believe the 4th of July is right around the corner? While we’re all getting ready for backyard BBQs, fireworks, and fun with friends, I wanted to drop in with a quick reminder for all my fellow pet lovers.
As much as we love the celebration, for our dogs and cats, it can be an absolute nightmare. Loud booms, flashing lights, and strange guests can really shake them up. Jax (my Cavalier King Charles) gets super anxious, so I totally get it—this is something I plan ahead for every year. Here's what I do and what you can too:
🔕 Block out the boom-booms
Turn on the TV, play some calm music, or use a white noise machine. The goal is to create a safe, familiar sound environment to help drown out the fireworks. Jax usually cuddles up next to me with the fan and TV on blast!
💊 Talk to your vet now
If your pet gets anxious, there are calming treats, natural supplements, or even short-term meds your vet might recommend. Don’t wait until it’s too late and all the appointments are booked.
🏡 Keep them inside—even if they’re usually outdoor pets
This is a big one. So many pets run away from home on the 4th of July every year because they’re scared. Even if your dog or cat is usually fine outdoors, bring them in and make them feel safe.
🐾 ID tags and microchips = peace of mind
Make sure collars are on and that info is up to date. If your pet does get out, this can be the one thing that brings them home.
🔥 Keep an eye on the grill (and the guests)
It’s easy for pets to sneak a bite of something dangerous—like grapes, chocolate, or onions—especially when everyone’s distracted. And hot grills? Not safe for curious paws.
🧨 Skip the backyard fireworks
I know, I know—it’s tempting. But honestly, it’s not worth the stress it causes our pets (and let’s be real, probably a few neighbors too). Head to a local show or watch from a distance.
Your pets are part of the family, and I always say: your home isn't just four walls—it's where your people and pets feel safe. 🐶💙
Wishing you and your furry friends a happy, safe, and peaceful 4th of July!
